Free Kidney Health Screening — In Partnership with the National Kidney Foundation (NKF)

Your kidneys quietly filter waste, balance fluids, and regulate blood pressure every day — often without any warning signs when something goes wrong. That's why regular screening matters, especially if you fall into a higher-risk group.

We're proud to partner with the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) Singapore to offer free kidney health screening to eligible Singaporeans and Permanent Residents at our clinic.

Why This Matters in Singapore

Kidney disease is a bigger issue in Singapore than many realise. More than 500,000 people in Singapore are living with chronic kidney disease and are at risk of it progressing to kidney failure, and new cases of kidney failure have risen by 46% over the past decade. Singapore also ranks 4th globally for the number of people living with kidney failure, and 5th for newly diagnosed cases each year.

What makes this especially concerning is how quietly it progresses. Screening with blood and urine tests is the only reliable way to catch it early — having normal blood sugar or cholesterol readings doesn't mean your kidneys are healthy. Many people are only diagnosed once kidney function has already declined significantly, by which point damage is often irreversible.

This is exactly why regular, targeted screening for at-risk individuals matters so much.

Are Your Kidneys OK?

Kidney disease often develops silently, with few or no symptoms in its early stages. The good news is that it can be detected early with two simple tests.

1. Blood Test

Checks for serum creatinine, a waste product from muscle breakdown that your kidneys filter out. Your creatinine level is used to calculate your kidney function.

2. Urine Test

Checks for albumin, a protein normally kept in the blood. Abnormal levels of protein in your urine can be an early sign of kidney damage.

Together, these two tests give a clear picture of how well your kidneys are working.

What to Expect During Your Screening

The screening is quick, simple, and non-invasive:

  1. Registration – Our staff will verify your eligibility and NRIC/FIN details.

  2. Blood sample collection – A small blood sample is drawn to test creatinine levels and estimate your kidney function (eGFR).

  3. Urine sample collection – You'll be asked to provide a urine sample to check for albumin (protein).

  4. Results & follow-up – Once results are ready, our clinic team will go through them with you. If any values are outside the normal range, we'll advise on next steps, which may include lifestyle changes, further tests, or referral for specialist follow-up.

The entire process typically takes just a short visit — no special preparation is required beforehand, though your doctor may advise on fasting depending on other tests you may be combining with your visit.

Who Is Eligible?

This screening is available free of charge to Singaporeans and Permanent Residents aged 21–80 who:

Have not done a kidney screening in the past 1 year, and

Have any one of the following risk factors:

Personal Medical History

Family History

Other Risk Factors

Diabetes

Kidney Disease

BMI ≥ 27.5 kg/m²

Hypertension

Diabetes

Frequent smoker

Heart Disease*

Hypertension

Frequent NSAID use (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs)

*Heart disease includes heart attack, heart failure, valve disease, stroke, and blood vessel/vascular disease.

Simple Habits That Help Protect Your Kidneys

Alongside regular screening, everyday habits can go a long way in keeping your kidneys healthy:

Manage diabetes and blood pressure – These are the two leading causes of kidney disease, so keeping them well-controlled is one of the most protective steps you can take.

Stay hydrated – Adequate water intake helps your kidneys flush out waste efficiently.

Watch your salt and protein intake – A balanced diet reduces strain on kidney function over time.

Maintain a healthy weight – A BMI within the healthy range lowers your risk of kidney-related complications.

Avoid overusing NSAIDs – Frequent use of over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen can affect kidney function, especially with long-term use.

Don't smoke – Smoking reduces blood flow to the kidneys and accelerates kidney damage.
