What is a CCOD?

When a person passes away at home, a doctor will need to assess the deceased and determine whether the cause of death can be medically certified.

A doctor certifies the medical cause of death. Once the death is certified online, it is automatically registered, and the next-of-kin can download the digital death certificate through My Legacy

When is a home CCOD visit suitable?

This service is intended for expected, natural deaths where the patient has a known medical condition. It is generally suitable when:

• The patient had a known chronic, advanced or terminal illness

• The death was expected rather than sudden or unexplained

• There is no injury, trauma, accident or suspicious circumstance

• Supporting medical information is available for the visiting doctor to review

When this service is not suitable

This service is not intended for sudden, unexpected, unexplained, traumatic or suspicious deaths.

Examples include deaths involving:

• An unknown cause

• An accident or injury

• Trauma

• Suspicious circumstances

• An unexpected death without adequate supporting medical history

In these circumstances, please call 999 instead.

If the visiting doctor attends but is unable to certify the death, the case may need to be referred to the police for further investigation.

How it works — 4 simple steps

STEP 1 — WhatsApp us. Send your request to +65 8911 7474 and attach the medical memo / discharge summary.

STEP 2 — We review your request. Our team will review the information and medical documents provided.

We will then confirm the doctor's availability, estimated visit time and applicable fee.

Please allow at least 4 hours' lead time, subject to doctor availability.

STEP 3 — Doctor visits. The doctor assesses whether the death can be certified.

STEP 4 — CCOD submitted. If certification is appropriate, the doctor will submit the death certification digitally.

The death will then be automatically registered, allowing the next-of-kin to retrieve the digital death certificate through My Legacy.

CCOD Home Visit Fees

Evening visits between 6pm and 9pm include an additional $50 fee. The applicable fee and visit timing will be confirmed through WhatsApp before the doctor is dispatched.

What Happens After the Death Is Certified?

Once the doctor has certified the death online, the death is automatically registered.

The next-of-kin can then download the digital death certificate from My Legacy and proceed with the necessary funeral, burial or cremation arrangements.
